The Vermillion Ranch is a private retreat on the Yellowstone River, situated at the confluence of Sweetgrass Creek and the Yellowstone. This historic ranch offers exclusive waterfront access to world-class trout fishing and a unique Montana getaway for travelers who want something off the beaten path.

Owned by the Vermillion family since 1971, the ranch is protected by a conservation easement with the Montana Land Reliance. The 800-acre property includes nearly two miles of water frontage, broad Rocky Mountain views, and lodging for up to 12 guests in two rustic, beautiful buildings.

Harrison Homestead is located in the heart of Montana's finest trout country. Along the Yellowstone River frontage, trout average 16 inches, and fish over 20 inches are caught regularly.

The Yellowstone is a strong dry-fly river, with mayfly and caddis hatches in April and July and excellent hopper fishing in August and September. Nearby rivers, spring creeks, mountain streams, and lakes add variety to the week.

The Harrison Homestead sleeps up to nine in the main historic building, with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, living room, renovated basement gathering space, laundry room, and screened porch overlooking the yard.

Private Rental

The Homestead is also available as a private rental, allowing guests to build a more independent Montana ranch stay around the property.

2026 Fishing Packages
7 nights / 6 days: $4,500
6 nights / 5 days: $4,200
5 nights / 4 days: $3,900
4 nights / 3 days: $3,600
Rates include guided fishing with shared boat, chef-prepared meals, shared accommodations, wine, and beer.
Not included: gratuities, transportation to and from the lodge, laundry service, private rod fees, hard liquor, fishing gear, flies, or fishing license.
2026 weekly rental rate: $3,300 plus bed tax. 2027 rates have not been set and are subject to increase.
Gear
The Yellowstone is a perfect river for a 4, 5, or 6 weight rod.
Fishing shifts between nymphing and streamers, and fish over 20 inches are regularly caught.
Guides have rods and reels available. Except in spring and later fall, almost all wading is wet wading.
