A wonderful trip that combines exceptional trout fishing, world class amenities, and old English culture.

Of the 210 chalkstreams in the world, 160 of them flow in the beautiful English countryside. The most famous of these, flow from the southern chalk stone hills, (downs) through the counties of Hampshire and Wiltshire, with legendary names like the Test and Itchen. Rivers, that have become the accepted birthplace of modern day fly fishing.

Sweetwater Travel has put together an exclusive opportunity to fish these hallowed waters in the footsteps of early fly fishing pioneers Izaak Walton and F.M. Halford. We’ve packaged elegant accommodation, historical attractions and the very best of English dry fly-fishing together, for a memorable, nostalgic journey set amongst the beautiful, unchanged countryside of old
England.

Mark Bolton, our head guide in Livingston Montana,
was born in England and has compiled some of the very best “beats” on four renowned streams. Marks knowledge of his home country and guiding expertise will ensure an enjoyable and relaxed experience for all levels of anglers as well as soaking up some of the history, customs and charm that England has to offer.

The Fishing

During the week, you will fish renowned beats on some of England's most famous Chalkstreams.  Whether it is the River Test, The River Itchen, the River Frome or River Nadder, Sweetwater and its English expert, Mark Bolton, reserve the finest beats and guides from one of England's best sporting agents.

As fly fishermen, we owe a great deal to the English pioneers that began to fly fish hundreds of years ago.  Today's fly fishing with indicators, bead, split shot, and high end graphite rods has created an endless opportunity for fly fishermen.  However, fly fishing is a sport based on tradition and there is something very special about returning to Izaak Walton's old haunts.  We invite you to join us in England as we return to the birthplace of fly fishing.

Accommodations

The English country side is renowned for its manors.  Our trips operate out of three exceptional estates/lodging.   Some weeks, we stay in Stockbridge, whereas other weeks we stay about ten minutes outside of Stockbridge.

Rooms are all very comfortable with single occupancy rooms available for an extra charge. Non-fishing hours can be spent walking the grounds, visiting nearby shops and cafes,  visiting the remains of a 13th-century chapel, a sundial and a walled Victorian kitchen garden.  Or, watching trout lazily feed from the bridge over the Test as it flows through town.

This is the perfect trip for non anglers and anglers alike.  The chalkstreams of southern England cover a relatively small geographic area, starting just an hours drive west from the capital, London. Ancient historic landmarks such as Stonehenge and the beautiful Roman city of Bath are just short drives from our accommodations and visits can easily be incorporated into your stay.

We hope you can join us.

Itinerary in brief

Guests will arrive in England on Sunday and transfer, provided, to the English manor where we will be staying for the first few days of fishing.
Each morning, your guide will pick you up at the hotel, and you will head out for the day with your fishing partner. During the day, you will have a private beat that will provide ample opportunities for wild, English trout sipping dry flies or emergers on the surface.  All fishing is single hook, catch and release barbless.

On the following Sunday, you will return for your flight back home.  Drivign time from our accommodations to the airport is approximately 1.5 hours.
